February 2011 - Nancy Boyles

On January 11 & 13th, RSU 20 hosted Nancy Boyles for several Professional Development sessions about teaching Reading. It was possible for all nine elementary schools to watch and participate using the Tandberg videoconferencing units.

This promises to be the beginning of an exciting new way to increase staff interaction and collaboration. We would love to hear about your experience with the videoconference that day in the "Comments" section below.

Dr. Nancy Boyles is

currently an associate

professor at Southern Connecticut State

University where she teaches courses in

developmental reading.

If you missed Nancy Boyles or if you would like to watch her again, there are several options:

  1. K5 Libraries > Teacher Resources. You will find "Nancy Boyles" under PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. (These are better to listen too than view because the image is quite small.)
  2. Tandberg Content Server to play or download the entire video. (However, the video is huge and is 10 hours long.) Look for "Date: 11 Jan 2011" and Date: 13 Jan 20011" entitled Scheduled Meeting.
  3. Borrow an edited DVD of each lesson from your school library. You can check the Library Catalog to see if the DVD is available. The Call Number is  PRO 372.47 NAN The titles are:
    • Nancy Boyles demonstration lesson and follow-up : grade 3
    • Nancy Boyles demonstration lesson and follow-up : grade 1
    • Nancy Boyles demonstration lesson and follow-up : grade 5
    • Nancy Boyles demonstration lesson and follow-up : grade 3A

Please remember that this was a "learning experience" for us, too. We know the recording and videos can be improved on, but we hope you are able to benefit from these recordings. We'll get a chance to improve when Nancy Boyles returns to RSU 20 on May 20, 23, 24, and 25, 2011.
